Brand is Not Logo — It's Worldview

Most artists think of branding as a logo and a colour palette. That's visual identity — one small component of brand. Your actual brand is the sum of everything about you: your sound, your aesthetic, your values, how you communicate, what you stand for, and what experience people have when they encounter your music. Everything should be coherent and intentional.

Start With Clarity on Who You Are

Before designing anything, answer these questions honestly: What 3 adjectives would you use to describe your music? Who is your ideal listener (be specific — not 'everyone', but a real type of person)? What artists or cultural worlds does your music live alongside? What emotion do you want people to feel when they encounter you? Your answers to these questions are your brand brief.

Visual Consistency

Pick a visual direction and commit to it consistently. Look at your Instagram grid — does it tell a clear visual story, or is it random? Strong visual branding doesn't require expensive designers: clear colour palette (2–3 colours), consistent typography, and a coherent photographic style are enough. Use Canva templates to maintain consistency if you're designing yourself.

Find Your Difference

What do you do that nobody else does in quite the same way? Lean into it aggressively. The most memorable artists have something distinctive and slightly polarising about them. 'Accessible to everyone' is the enemy of memorability. Define your edge and build everything around it.
